MAY - PARIS LIVE RADIO IS LIVE!
After almost 3 years in the making a revolution in French entertainment has arrived in English! Paris Live Radio is the alternative source of news and entertainment in France.
Paris, FRANCE (MAY 11, 2004) PARIS LIVE RADIO [PLR] the first commercial radio station in France to broadcast in English announces today that it will go live to air on May 11, 2004. PLR will is City News & Only Hit Music playing a mix todays hits and classic songs as well as a line-up of news and fresh talk shows in English. PLR will give listeners across Paris a new choice for todays best music with hourly Paris focussed news and talk radio in English. The news room will be associated with Agence France Presse.

The demand for English-language news, entertainment and information in France is astounding, explains Renzie Duncan, Director of PLR. PLR was launched to cater to a rapidly growing English-speaking population in Paris. PLR is targeting a large community of over 740,000 English speakers who live in Paris , as well as targeting the massive French tourist market especially in the summer months. Paris, after all is the most visited city in the world with over 20 million annual visitors out of the total 68 million tourists that visited France last year.

According to the Eiffel Towers recent visitor survey, over 77% of all visitors to the Tower consider English their preferred language that translates to a captive audience of over 15 million people each year. Since virtually every one of Pariss 150,000 hotel rooms has access to cable or satellite TV, PLRs strategy has been to partner with Canal Satellite, NOOS and NC Numericable and begin broadcasting the PLR signal in digital format via the satellite and cable into as many hotel rooms as possible. We are giving our listeners a number of ways to listen to PLR, says Renzie Duncan. A core part of our strategy is to be where our target audience is and that means satellite, cable and internet.

Furthermore, Canal Satellite and NOOS report that around half of their 10 million subscribers are regularly listening to radio via their cable and satellite systems because of the perfect audio quality and the increasing popularity of home cinema packages allowing listeners to enjoy the best and clearest radio sound ever as the TV has become an integral part of the whole home stereo/cinema system.

There is very little content out there specifically catering to the needs of English speakers in Paris, notes Renzie Duncan. PLR will be the first to provide a full range of music, news and information services to this growing and influential population in Paris. For example there is no English newspaper, radio or television giving primarily Paris and French content to the millions of English speakers in France and this must be rectified. Moscow has 5 daily English language newspapers and two English radio stations but until PLR, Paris had none.

PLR is also building a comprehensive internet presence, streaming live 24/7 all music and shows along side a site rich in information about everything going in Paris. With a stronger than average broadband adoption rate than non-English speakers, listening to the radio by internet is growing in popularity among the student and young professional demographic.

After 22:00 to 01:00, PLR will hand the station over to the youth of Paris from Wednesdays to Sundays and will play all the new and underground music with its Downtime Show. This will give an opportunity for the new artists to have their music played on the radio for the first time.

Going to FM is naturally part of our strategy, explains Duncan, but we also believe that launching on cable, satellite and the internet is going to be the best way to target our core audience and build our listener base. PLR plans to start broadcasting by FM / AM by the end of year.

In addition to the 1 May 2004 official broadcast launch, PLR would also like to announce the following:

Satellite and Cable, broadcasting licence. PLR signed its broadcast convention with the CSA in November 2003.
